Most Wanted – Lisa Scottoline

Most Wanted by Lisa Scottoline
Published by St. Martin's Press on April 12, 2016

Lisa Scottoline is a new to me author, but I have heard of her and seen her books Most Wanted – Lisa Scottolinearound for years. When I saw Most Wanted, I loved the synopsis and jumped at the chance to read it. I wasn't sure what to expect going into the read, but a mashup of a mystery, thriller, family drama and chick-lit was not it. Christine is a schoolteacher with a seemingly perfect life. She and her husband, Marcus are expecting their first child and they appear to have everything going for them. However, all is not what it seems and their child was conceived via sperm donation. And their donor may be the serial killer that was just caught.

I liked most of the plot of Most Wanted, however, some of it was so forced and odd that it turned me off. The writing of Lisa Scottoline was great. Nice descriptions, vivid action and her character development was superb. The pacing was a little shaky. Some things seemed very rushed and others very slow. I think Scottoline was going for tension, but the timeline issues detracted from my enjoyment. The world built was fantastic. I could picture the locations and the scenery popped. The emotions in Most Wanted were all over the place. I felt deeply with some people and not at all with others. The characters where were I had the most issues. None of them felt real. They were all over the top and while I understood their motivation, their actions were generally not plausible.

I did enjoy reading Most Wanted, however I just could not get past the totally wackadoo actions of the main character. Christine is not a sympathetic character, she is one that I wanted to shout out and say "let the authorities take care of this! Stop being crazypants!" The writing was fantastic and I liked the way Scottoline made the descriptions pop. I would read another Lisa Scottoline book knowing now how her writing tends, I just won't expect to love the characters.

I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
